Whitewater Unified School District Celebrates Summer School Success
WHITEWATER, WI — Whitewater Unified School District’s Summer School program served 722 students this summer through academic, artistic, athletic, and enrichment opportunities for learners of all ages.
For the first time, the district offered full-year high school credit courses as part of its summer programming at Whitewater High School. Thirteen students earned credit in physical education, and eight completed Exploratory Tech, an introductory course in woods, metals, and engineering. All students in the course also earned the Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10 certification, which prepares them for job shadows, youth apprenticeships, and future employment. High school students also participated in recovery courses to stay on track for graduation.
Athletic training was a focus for students across all grade levels. The district’s strength and speed training program drew 128 middle and high school students, including a high school group that trained daily at 6:30 a.m. before classes. More than 20 elementary students joined the new Fast Start Athletic Training class to develop foundational strength, speed, and agility.
Elementary students built skills in literacy, art, and music. A total of 132 students participated in targeted reading programs. Eighteen students performed a mini musical for families, and 36 participated in a musical theatre boot camp, showcasing short performances. Another 81 students took part in summer band lessons.
“Our Summer School programming provided students with valuable opportunities for growth in learning, creativity, and personal development,” said Superintendent Samuel Karns. “I’m proud of the way our students and staff embraced these experiences and am excited about the new programs that made this summer truly impactful.”
