Are parents and community informed, confident and supportive?

 heading 3

Partnerships with community

Lakeview Elementary has a long history of partnerships within the community. Whether it is with community organizations, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, or local agencies, Lakeview has embraced the many opportunities to build these relationships. The following are many of the organizations/agencies or programs helping to form these partnerships: UW-Whitewater (America Reads, mentors, student teachers, field study students, and UW-students working with our staff and students on specific academic projects), WHS students and staff,  Whitewater Police and LaGrange-Lauderdale volunteer fire department, Whitewater Library, 4-H and Scouts.

Parent/teacher conference participation

Parent/teacher conferences occur in the fall and spring. We have recently moved to the portfolio style of conferencing in which students are involved in the collaboration. The opportunity for parents/teachers and students to conference together is critical in building tight home and school connections. Typical conference turnout for the building is approximately 96%.

Volunteers in schools

Lakeview Elementary has a very active volunteer program. Our volunteers are critical to our students' success and we appreciate all they do for our school. Our volunteers are engaged in many different facets of our school, ranging from assisting students, teachers, and the office, to working with students in after-school programs. Lakeview has a wonderful learning environment and our volunteers contribute greatly to it. Although the sources of volunteering come from many areas, some of these areas include the PTA (Parent Teacher Association), parents, grandparents/other relatives of students, UW-W, former staff, community organizations, and service agencies. Lakeview, like other district buildings, employs a Volunteer Coordinator who does a great job of bringing volunteers into our school. Mrs. Cassie Stachow is our Volunteer Coordinator and can be reached at 472-8402. We are always excited to have volunteers offer the opportunity to make a positive difference for our students.

Family involvement in school activities

One of our top priorities at Lakeview is family involvement. We have a very supportive and active PTA. Our PTA president this year is Corey Salverson; Vice President - Karen Mayer, Secretary - Carrie Hintz; and Treasurer - Holly Crowley. Please go to the PTA link on our website for more information.  While the list of involvement activities is extensive, this is a generous sampling: Open House/Book Fair, Christmas Corner, Pennies For Patients/Halloween Party, Spring Fling, Olympic Day, Grandparent's/Important Person Day) Building Leadership Team (consisting of principal, staff and parents), Student Council activities,  and various fundraisers, band concerts, and choir concerts.

Families involved in parent training

Lakeview families have parent training opportunites provided to them. Some of these are: Love and Logic, Effective Parenting through our district FAST (Families And Schools Together) program, and other opportunites established by the district's Title I Family Coordinator, Mrs. Shirley Cutshall.
